First day of shooting upon arrival at Lauder Camp, Dwor Rychwald

I started shooting today at about 2:15 P.M. -- after lunch -- shot straight through eight hours an only used six rolls of film. It's been more wonderful than I could have imagined. I met Mira the painter who invited us to stay with her in Wroclaw. Dasha (from New York City) wants me to go to the town she was born in with her on Sunday and I think I will. Anyway, I'm so tired that I cannot write. Perhaps tomorrow before breakfast. I prayed twice today.

Woman holding photo This image is from the second roll of film I shot on the first day of this project. I was never able to find out her name (I was still so excited I simply forgot to ask) but the story told to me was that she had recently discovered a "lost" cousin who had all of these family photos of her family. The picture she holds is of herself and everyone else in the pcitures on the ground were lost during the Holocaust.
