Lauder Camp, Dwor Rychwald Some say there are no Jews left in Poland. My five days at the Ronald S. Lauder camp in Rychwald, Poland certainly proves otherwise. The camp is run by Rabbi Michael Shudrich of New York City and it is an orthodox Jewish "training" camp. Classes in Talmud, all daily prayers in the synagogue , and children activities such as the making of Jewish calendars and mezuzah's are but a few of the daily happenings. Morning prayer begins at 8:30 usually, followed by breakfast and a very full schedule of activities between all meals often runs to 11 P.M. or even later when there are special celebrations.
![]() August 18, 1995, Shabbat, Lauder Camp, Dwor Rychwald The week I was at the camp was supposed to be for children of the Holocaust (those survivors who were children during that period) and as well as people who survived the period by hiding, know as hidden Jews. There was this and more, almost all of whom are from Poland. Whether or not certain people are actually Jewish is another question and seems to be a big one in the gossip here that I found to be more and more rampant the longer I was here and the more I talked to people.
