Warsaw
Lauder-Morasha School

Today visited the Lauder-Morasha School. Helise Lieberman is the Director, Panni Direktor. An American with a seven year old daughter attending the school. Last year, its first, there was one class with 18 students. This year 3 classes - 32 students in grades 1 - 3 [When I want back in 1998 the school had grown considerably. It was in a new location and I believe it had about 100 students with most grades for an elementary school.]. Lauder funds it partially, but this private school is not free of charge. Bus picks up almost all students.

It is a full school authorized by the Polish Ministry...and it's definitely a Hebrew school too. Kippot (Hebrew plural for yarmulke or skull cap)are not mandatory but most children word them during Shabbat Time (Shabbat Time is doing everything you would normally do on Erev Shabbat, Friday Night: lighting candles, eating challah, having a nice meal together, singing songs - although this part was never done in my family - but they do it prior to Friday night for the children at school). Aspects of religious life are covered but it is definitely not orthodox. They keep Kosher, bake wonderful

Making Challah
challah on site and sell and deliver it to families of the students. The children really seem to enjoy it. Today was the first Shabbat of the new school year and definitely a big deal. Kids screamed with excitement when Shabbat time was announced. Kippot were handed out and kids were jubilantly waving hands to be given one.

Want to go back and shoot in color...look into Jewish Kindergarten too.
